Information/Projects by Grade levelKindergarten is working on force and Motion. We are practicing our balance and directional words. Zig-Zag, behind, in front of, underneath, and on top of.
First Grade is working on Force and Motion using magnets. We are discussing how magnets work. That each magnet has a north and south pole. What sides are attracted to each other and what sides repel each other.
Second Grade is studying Force and Motion and using sound and vibration to do so. We have been studying how the ears work. We are looking at pitch while we make Didgeridoo's from Australia. We have also studied Aboriginal Art to help us decorate our instrument.
Third Grade is also working on Force and Motion. We are studying friction, gravity and air masses. We have made paper airplanes and discussed how different forces cause the planes to move at different speeds. We are also working on marble art-using force to paint. We are studying friction and how that affects the speeds and directions things move.
Fourth Grade is studying Food and Minerals. They are designing a food truck from the ground up. They must create a business plan, come up with a name, a logo, a menu(with vegetarian and gluten free options), coupons and finally create a 3D model. They must also include an exercise and how long that exercise must be done in order to burn off each food item on their menu.
Fifth Grade is studying Force and Motion. They are building a marble roller coaster. They had to create a diagram of a roller coaster after they researched roller coasters. They have studied friction, speed, velocity and acceleration. They are using the Engineering Design process to help them with the project.
